SUMMARY:Student Virtual Case Competition
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual APRU Global Health Virtual Case Competition 202
5\nCase competitions are increasingly popular around the world as a way fo
r students to exercise critical thinking skills using a “real-world” c
hallenge. For this international\, virtual competition\, teams of 3–6 st
udents will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health prob
lem. Teams will be given up to 12 weeks to prepare a video of up to 10
minutes in English proposing a realistic\, well-designed\, innovative solu
tion to the challenge. Teams will save their videos on video-sharing websi
tes and submit the links for judging by an international panel of APRU Glo
bal Health Program members and other global expert judges.\n\nThe Virtual
Case Competition 2025 is supported by data.org and organised in partnersh
ip with Universiti Malaya\,  United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Thre
e videos will be selected for the final round at the APRU Global Health C
onference 2025 on October 28–31\, 2025\, in Kuala Lumpur. The winning te
am will be announced at the conference\, and a prize of US$1\,000 will be
awarded. All students who participate will receive a certificate of partic
ipation via email.\nChallenge of the Year\n“Advancing Inclusive Growth i
n Southeast Asia by Leveraging Data and AI for Food Security”\n\nDue to
 urbanization\, growing populations\, conflict\, climate change\, rising co
st of living\, and declining food production\, food insecurity is expected
to rise in the coming years. Your team has been asked to work with one na
tional government in Southeast Asia to inform the development of a five-ye
ar strategic plan to address food insecurity through a food systems approa
ch. Previous attempts to address food insecurity have used a siloed way of
thinking that failed to take into consideration the complex\, interconnec
ted issues and different dimensions of food insecurity. This nation’s go
vernment aims to collaborate with many stakeholders on the design of new p
olicies and programs. However\, convening and collecting data from many st
akeholders can be very resource-intensive. Therefore\, this government wan
ts to employ the power of artificial intelligence (AI) but acknowledges th
e limitations of AI\, including the shortcomings of the data currently ava
ilable. In this challenge\, your team is tasked with conducting a detailed
analysis and critique of the existing data available on one dimension of
food insecurity in one Southeast Asian nation\, as well as a plan to colle
ct new\, more inclusive data.\n\nDownload Challenge of the Year 2025 Docum
